How did those colored versions came to be? The accompanying text casually mentions that all photographs in the book are colored in (since the hubble collects black and white imagery) and would not reflect how you and I would see the sky, but fail to explain what it is we do see in the photographs. So if you are not familiar(like me) to astronomy it's hard to comprehend what you are seeing.īut absolutely the worst part of the book, and this is the one fatal flaw, is barely explaining how these pictures work. There is a photo index at the end of the book, but other than the name of the galaxy/celestial body and the instrument used, there was no information about what made it such a spectacular image. The photograph are not accompanied by any info on what you are looking at. As Taschen created such an extensive collection of hubble pictures the lack of depth in the esseys are just a shame. The essay's printed in this book to accompany the pictures are not top notch quality.

As the accompanied illustrations are not the same across languages. The separation of the 3 languages is not always very clear, and if you do not go through all languages you miss vital information in the book. The tri-language setup of this book is not executed very well. Stunning pictures that are perfectly printed on the high quality pages.Īnd combined with the large format at which this book is printed makes for a real joy to go through. While the images are stunning the book has some serious flaws that keep readers from understanding what they are looking at.
